*Sigisbert II was Dagobert's son by his second wife.
*Before the discoveries of the authors of "Holy Blood,
Holy Grail", Dagoberts assassination was
regarded as the end of the Merovingian dynasty, at least this is what
the Catholic church wanted the
world to believe. In it's place in 754, Rome established the Carolingian
dynasty with Pepin II. The
name Carolingian derives from Charles Martel, grandfather of Charlemagne,
the first designated
"Holy Roman Emperor" (bk-2,52)
*The authors of "Holy Blood" discovered that Dagobert's
son by his second wife had survived.
Sigisbert II was rescued by his sister and smuggled southward to the
domain of his mother, the
Visigoth princess Giselle de Razes.
*In 681, Sigisbert II arrived in Languedoc (Southern France)
and shortly therafter adopted his
uncle's titles, "Duke of Razes, and Count of Rhedae. Sigisbert also
adopted the name of "Plantard",
which means ardently flowering shoot of the "Merovingian Vine". Under
this name and under the
titles aquired from his uncle, he perpetuated his lineage.
*By 886, one branch of the Merovingian lineage culminated
in a Bernard Plantavelu (Derived from Plantard),
whose son became the first Duke of Aquitane. (bk-1,259)
